More than a half-dozen possible witnesses are talking to the Bronx
district attorney's office about the police shooting of Ahmed Diallo in
the vestibule of his Soundview building.
A man who lives across the street from the shooting scene told Channel 2
News last night that he heard a pause after a volley of shots — then in
"seconds it starts again."
The unidentified man, who appeared in silhouette, told Channel 2 he
looked out the window after hearing shots and saw one of the four cops
firing. "I see no reaction in his face and I'm looking at him because
I'm in shock. I'm wondering, what is he shooting at?" he said.
Channel 2 said at least six other possible witnesses have come forward
and that authorities are looking for a couple who might have been on
Wheeler Ave. when the shooting erupted late Thursday.
A Bronx grand jury might begin hearing the case this week. The cops
involved in the shooting — Edward McMellon, Sean Carroll, Richard Murphy
and Kenneth Boss Jr. — have been assigned to desk duty.
The Manhattan U.S. attorney's office and the FBI also are monitoring the
probe.
One source familiar with the federal role in the probe said Manhattan
U.S. Attorney Mary Jo White will stay in the background until Bronx
District Attorney Robert Johnson is finished with the case.
